Projects
The projects I have chosen to share on this page highlight some aspect of my growth as a writer. All of these selections come from my Freshman-Junior years in college. They are all largely written to a professional standard, but are in no way perfect. I want to include them because of the valuable lessons I learned while creating them.
Business Proposal
This is a proposal for the Colorado Springs City Council to reopen the City Auditorium, one of my longest and most researched projects. The proposal was meant to be presented to the Colorado Springs City Council. Scholarly resources on this project were almost nonexistent, so I relied on interviews and news outlets. I interviewed two groups directly affected by the closure and made sure to include their stories to enhance the impact of the proposal. The project sharpened my ability to work through research constraints and build a clear case without robust resources.
Recommendation Report
I analyzed Colorado’s 1970s decision to reject hosting the Olympics and evaluated whether the state should revisit that choice today. I built a data‑driven argument using custom charts, historical research, and original polling. When interview requests fell through, I shifted to online surveys to gather usable insights. The project sharpened my ability to adapt research methods and turn complex information into clear, evidence‑based conclusion
Style Guide
I created a full style guide for a local nonprofit, defining voice, tone, formatting standards, and visual consistency across their communications. With limited existing documentation, I built the guide from the ground up through interviews, content audits, and comparative research. The project strengthened my ability to translate organizational identity into clear, actionable guidelines that teams can apply consistently.
Write Instructions
This project had me work with the editors of iFixIt.com to create instructions for their website. I learned about writing in a particular genre, as the people at iFixIt had clear, established standards for their articles. My biggest struggles for this project were getting the photographs up to their standards. Writing instructions to a genre standard introduced me to working with an editor.
Accessibility Editing
This project was my introduction to accessibility in documentation. I had a poor grasp of what accessibility was prior to this assignment, so I was not sure where to begin. The biggest challenges for this assignment were working with Adobe Acrobat's accessibility tools and working with a group who keeps missing deadlines.
